#SAYWHAT : EDUCATION

COPE
@COPEVancouver
COPE trustees know that smaller class sizes mean more individual attention. Students and Parents can count on COPE School Board trustees to work to make our schools inclusive of every child and their family. COPE supports the right of every student – including and especially students with special needs – to educational programs and services that fit their individual needs, and COPE will advocate and defend low-income and marginalized students. COPE will also work to ensure seismic upgrading and proper building maintenance so every student is safe and secure.

Chris Masson, De-Growth Vancouver
@thischrismasson @degrowthvan
De-growth and I are in support of alternative forms of learning, like home schooling, community schooling or “un-schooling”. The public school system is extemely effective and squashing individualism and creativity at a very young age, and creativity is what is most needed! My vision of the city sees a future where there is less stress put on the public school system and more agency taken by parents and communities to educate their own children. Here’s me performing a poem I wrote: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiYcUp8GpXw

Adriane Carr, Green Party
@AdrianeCarr
Greens support smaller class sizes and a return to local bargaining on classroom conditions as the best way to ensure collective agreements respect the needs of students and teachers. We support reinstating full funding for special needs education programs, including gifted and ESL programs. We advocate for more demonstration gardens on school grounds, more healthy food programs in school cafeterias and classrooms and making bicycling education a part of the school curriculum. Greens’ platforms provincially and federally focus on reducing fees, increasing bursaries and funding more student spaces in post-secondary institutions.

Vision Vancouver
@visionvancouver
The Vision Vancouver led School Board has advocated for adequate, predictable, and stable funding for Vancouver schools. In concert with parents, students, employees and other Boards, those advocacy efforts have resulted in additional funding for students from the Provincial Government. Vision Vancouver continues to focus on student learning and success through enhanced teaching and learning, use of educational technology, early intervention, and assessment for learning. and innovative programs. Vision Vancouver Trustees have increased student safety by promoting anti-bullying initiatives, internet safety programs, and updated emergency preparedness plans. Vision Vancouver led School Board also has committed to develop a green sustainability plan. Vision Vancouver commits to improving services for aboriginal students by continuing to work with the Aboriginal community to plan and implement an aboriginal focused school of choice.

NPA
@NPAVancouver
NPA School Board Trustees will deliver integrity, common sense and responsible management for families and children in Vancouver. They promote our public school system as one of Canada’s best.  An NPA School Board will embrace a “neighbourhood of learning” concept to integrate programs located in adjacent schools, make them available to each community, and integrate schools with local libraries, community centres, neighbourhood houses, and parks. Maximize use of schools to better serve child care, seniors, community recreation, fitness and health care. Review the VSB’s ability to manage facilities, new construction, and develop performance guidelines. Support “Walk and Cycle to Schools” programming.

Neighbourhoods for a Sustainable Vancouver
@nsvancouver
NSV believe that, just as citizens deserve to participate more fully in the political system, students deserve to participate more fully in the education system. We support democracy and social justice in the classroom which would include smaller class sizes and greater attention to students with special needs. Although we are not running candidates for School Board, we would support the School Board in reforms to make schools safer, healthier, and more democratic.
