#SAYWHAT : JOBS

COPE
@COPEVancouver
COPE supports small businesses – creating local jobs. COPE will call for changes to Vancouver’s taxation laws to provide tax breaks to support small businesses, which drive our economy. On school board, COPE trustees will continue to protect and enhance quality public education ensuring today’s students can take full advantage of tomorrow’s knowledge economy. COPE would enhance Adult Basic Education programs improving literacy and expanding opportunities for many seeking better employment. COPE also supports the hard work of Vancouver city staff working to improve our parks, roads, community centres, libraries, public transit, and provide vital services for all Vancouver residents.

@leaguetomorrow
Living wage for city workers. City-owned student residences. Hire youth and new immigrants.

Adriane Carr, Green Party
@AdrianeCarr
Greens support a smart economy that expands green jobs in fields like energy efficiency and waste reduction—jobs ranging from “green-collar” to “green-entrepreneur” to “green-high-tech”. We support a more fair tax system that does not squeeze out small business, knowing most jobs are created by small enterprises. We would expand support for initiatives that stimulate Vancouver’s creative and tourism sectors, such as film and music festivals, and a “Shop Local” campaign to support local entrepreneurship.

Vision Vancouver
@visionvancouver
Vision has a strong track record of supporting and achieving green job development, through our investment in the Vancouver Economic Commission and the establishment of the Greenest City 2020 Action Plan. We will continue to support the development of good paying green jobs, including home deconstruction projects, energy efficiency retrofits, and green building technology. Vision Vancouver initiated an innovative mentorship program which pairs new immigrants with a city staff member, who volunteers to give personal advice and support, to help the participants navigate the job market.

NPA
@NPAVancouver
The NPA economic development plan is focused on job creating sectors, government collaboration and small business development.  We will promote Vancouver as Canada’s gateway to the Asia/Pacific through a Vancouver Investment and Trade Authority and Asia/Pacific Council. Oppose a job-killing container tax being considered by the current administration. Establish Industry Councils to develop collaborations, monitor trends and identify partnership opportunities in traditional job-creating sectors (tourism; finance; real estate; natural resources; transportation; health care; digital technology, film and creative sector). Support a world class “Smart City” initiative with our universities and colleges to promote Vancouver as a safe and effective place for innovation investment.

Neighbourhoods for a Sustainable Vancouver
@nsvancouver
A varied and robust civic economy is essential to sustainable communities and job creation. NSV would support small businesses through tax credits and encourage the arts, technology, creative economy, traditional clean economy, youth experience programs, and various other industries and initiatives. We would protect industrial land for job space and implement revisions to the building and zoning bylaws to make adaptive reuse of existing buildings more feasible (which provides more affordable work space than new construction).

We need more youth orientated wage subsidy programs that will help small business owners employ youth. At the Parks Board level we need to bring back programs that involved the youth and helped them to valuable work experience. Students are not being hired due to lack of work experience, City Hall, School Board and Parks Board need to set up initatives which will enable youth to get that much needed work experience and training. Once our youth are trained properly in trades and services, they will be able to go out become successful entrepreneurs.
