About Get Your Vote On

What is Get Your Vote On?
We are a bunch of young people doing the seemingly impossible –making voting fun/interesting/worth doing for the rest of us.

What’s with the name?
We got our name through an on-line survey sent to everyone we could think of. In true democratic fashion, we held a referendum. The People chose “Get Your Vote On”.

Our goals:
Get people between 18 and 34 voting in the upcoming Provincial Elections and referendum on electoral reform, provide info about political parties, candidates and their positions on the issues. Make the politicians, the media and the public pay attention to young people's ideas, thoughts and concerns.

Be an open source network supporting you to organize in your communities and light a democratic fire in the places you live, study, work and play. Other things about GYVO:

Some Background Info:
Get Your Vote On started in a super low-key way during the 2004 federal election – with youth-focused all candidates debates in pubs in Vancouver and Victoria. And enough people were excited that we just kept going. By the time BC’s 2005 election came around, things were crazy – we’re talking text messaging, registering 20,000 people to vote, tons of on-the-street outeach, 50,000 stickers and more. (It’s all a bit of a blur.) In all this time, we’ve learned a lot, made a lot of friends and built incredible momentum. We’re now using these lessons to support youth across Canada to Get Their Vote On in their own unique ways. Find out how you can be part of it all.
