Spread the Word

It’s your birthday, and it’s a big one: You are turning 18 or 19 or 21 — and you live near a certain long border, wink-wink — or gasp, 30! You want people around for this. How do you tell them about it?

You can talk to them in person or make a Facebook event or alert your followers on Twitter. You can use a scheduling program such as Doodle to get everyone on-board or you can go old-school and put up posters.

Now imagine thousands of people reaching out to their friends and networks about your birthday. That, Canada, would be a party to remember!

If you think it is impossible to change anything or make a difference, think about spreading the word about voting in 2011 along with thousands of other young Vancouverites. It doesn’t matter if you have voted before or what you are into.  Skateboarders. Punks. Construction workers. People in hockey jerseys and business suits and bathing suits — when it finally warms up. Young people today can shake the world in a few minutes.

Anyone can get involved by starting a community “hub.”  You can use our Toolkit [almost here!] to help you organize events in your community and we have plenty of stuff for you – stickers, buttons, voters’ guides, poster templates, outreach scripts, how-to guides and more.

Or simply reach out to the people in your life: You don’t have to argue or tell everybody who you are voting for or why. Just tell them, in as many ways as you can, “This time, I’m voting.”

And let the party begin.
